installed rh 6.2 from talking bootdisk, but it's kernel refuses to work properly when copied in from the bootdisk

The rdev setting is only used in the kernel image when none is given to the
kernel by loadlin lilo grub silo or another loader. The rdev bytes in the kernel
are for if you bring the kernel up off a floppy with no boot loader it knows
what the default root device is.
