Hi:

There are several programs under linux with which one can record wave
files.  One of them is sure to do what you need.  Several of us are eagerly
awaiting awesome but it's still aways off yet.

Tuxtalk is fine in and of itself, it began as rsynth, but it's not yet able
to be coupled to speakup, so it's not a real lot of use yet.  This is more
a speakup issue than an issue with tuxtalk itself.  The work needed to
implement this under speakup is definitely not trivial, and it will happen
when it happens.
