Hi all! I appreciate the time that everyone has spent helping me on this. This machine is a Compaq presario -- I don't know the model number, 600 mhz, 128 mb ram, 20 gig hard drive, dvd reader, cd writer, built in modem, NIC card, sound blaster live and pentium 3 processor.. I forgot one other thing I did while someone was here to watch this weekend. I have the 6 disk set debian distribution and I discovered that my machine was capable of booting from CD-ROM. I put the first Debian disk in and booted and got prompts for keyboard and hard drive partitioning stuff like I would have expected so I think the machine is basicly allright. I don't know if any of this helps much. Enjoy!
