That promotes staying second class. But also if there is a software speech option, it will allow more options. First, it is (unfortunately) cheaper to get a system capable of running software speech then to buy any other then the lowest cost synths. Second, most newer laptops have sound built in. The laptop market is saddled with less then ideal to begin with.
