Possibly a question for the wrong group, can I use serial on a
multidrop RS485 network? I know I'll obviously need a physical adapter
for it, but can serial be used or is it only point to point?

The application is sync serial (SDLC-based), not async, and I want to
achieve three things:
1. Link "tap" for logging all traffic, regardless of destination, on a
short-distance 300-500kbit/s RS485 multidrop
2. Source / destination node for traffic, with address set by software
3. Interface to Ethernet/IP, but ser2net or similar could be used for that

All pointers very gratefully received!!!
Andy
