One thing I noticed is that monitoring the raid array made it survive a LOT longer than before . I simply used dd to dump 300G of zeros into the array , while at the same time using md5deep on the entire mountpoint . it stopped after writing around 280G this time , I was surprised because it never exceeded 77G before .
