LSI Logic 1068E Hot Swap issue

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi,

I have a LSI 3801E PCIe SAS HBA based on the LSI 1068E controller connected to 8 SATA hot swap drive bays running under Fedora 11 X86_64 (2.6.29.4-167.fc11).  I have 4 SATA drives hanging off of each external (4 SAS channels) connector.  I am having the following issue.  If I have 2+ drives on the same connect and replace one drive, when the new drive is detected, it resets all drives on the connector.  So any drive that was mounted goes offline.

For example:

/dev/sde1 - mounted to /media/disk1
/dev/sdf, /dev/sdg, /dev/sdh - 3 other drives connected to the same SAS connector.

I removed sdh and reinserted it.  When the drive is discovered and given a device entry, /dev/sde gets some sort of reset that makes the /media/disk1 mount fail and is no longer available.  I've posted a copy of the kernel messages when this happened.

Is this a driver issue, a configuration issue, or is it just how the 1068E works and there is no way around it?

Thanks!

- Mike
