[sym53c8xx] problem: dropping back to 5MB/s with 2.6.18+

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hello!

I'm trying to upgrade my kernel from 2.6.15, but my external RAID drops back to 5 MB/s due to domain validation errors. With my current kernel 2.6.15 the performance is OK.

Here are the details:

 - kernel: 2.6.15-1-686 i686 GNU/Linux
 - kernel driver: sym53c8xx - 2.2.1
 - hostadapter: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic 53c1010 66MHz Ultra3 SCSI (rev 01)
 - external RAID: Transtec BR-1600U3p

Please note, that the hostadapter is a 66MHz/32bit device stuffed into a plain 33MHz/32bit socket. (I'm not sure it that matters.)

With kernel 2.6.20-rc3 the following kind of error are logged while iterating down to FAST-5:

         target0:0:0: FAST-40 WIDE SCSI 80.0 MB/s DT (25 ns, offset 31)
        sym0: unexpected disconnect
scsi 0:0:0:0: illegal scsi phase (4/5).
target0:0:0: Domain Validation detected failure, dropping back
sym0:0: No MSG OUT phase after selection with ATN.
        sym0:0: ERROR (0:48) (8-ae-0) (1f/38/80) @ (scripta 70:9e030000).
        sym0: script cmd = 80000000
        sym0: regdump: da 10 80 38 47 1f 00 0e 00 08 00 ae 80 01 06 02 00 3c 53$
        08 00 00 00.
        sym0: SCSI BUS reset detected.
sym0: SCSI BUS has been reset.

I have tried kernels 2.6.18, 2.6.19.1 and 2.6.20-rc3. They all show the same pattern. With kernel 2.6.15 no such errors are printed (see both attached logfiles).

Do you have any ideas how to fix this problem?

Best Regards
Andreas Heiduk
