mpt fusion mptspi broken in 2.6.14 2.5MB/Sec I/O rate

Under 2.6.14, I see a problem on a newisys 4300 (a.k.a SunFire V40Z) when you put an MPT Fusion SCSI controller (lsi22320-R ucode 10327) in the internal 66MHZ slot. That is the one right under the power supply. If you do that, and connect two or more drives to the external "B" channel, then all drives past the first in the string run at 2.5MB/Sec.
No errors, nothing in /var/log/messages. The first drive runs at 72MB/Sec.
Notes: only the "B" channel is affected, and only on the 66MHZ bus. the other 100 or 133MHz slots
do not show this problem.

the stock redhat kernel 2.6.9-* runs those drives at 72MB/Sec.
Solaris-10 10/05 release runs those drives at 72MB/Sec.
2.6.14 (and 2.6.13) rolls over and dies. 2.6.12 shows no problems.
So the problem appeared with mptspi vs mptscsih.

hardware is setup as 5 drives internal to the box, sda-sde (all hitachi 146GB 10K RPM)
and an external storcase 4-drive box with seagate 36GB U320 15K RPM drives,
on the "B" channel ("A" is fine).

Any clues or debug flags/#defines I can set to find this bugger?

so clearly something broke when the internal pci-x is shared between the motherboard
lsi22320 and an HBA version lsi22320-r.
