The enclosed one works better. Yet, from the existing 70 books (on my experimental tree), rst2pdf breaks with 14 ones. It seems that the problem is related to broken cross-references. The html builder handles it nicely, but rst2pdf seems to crash when it can't solve all references. That sounds somewhat similar to the bug we solved with the automarkup extension.
