In my use case an application is device emulation that runs in the context
of a userspace process in the host.
This (virtual) device receives from guest driver a dma address (in form of
scatter-gather list) along with guest user-space virtual address. This is
done i guess by any device driver. The dma-list is mapped to host virtual
address that is used as the addr argument and the guest-user-space virtual
address is used as the iova argument.
>From this moment the guest userspace can continue using the virtual address
as a base for any further post_send and post_recv operations, no extra
translation is needed.

Another use case is as Jason just mention - for the zero based MR.

Yes, para-virt. sriov doesn't need it since it is driven by a vendor driver
in guest that interact directly with the HW via iommu that translates the
addresses, right?
