    Pardon some ignorance: I'm dealing with an Ubuntu kernel, certainly
    a major distro.  Can you tell me how to find the bulletin for that
    kernel to confirm what kernel parameters can/cannot be modified?  I
    found https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel
    but that does not seem to contain the kind of information you're
    referring to here.
