Looks like a case for a look up table to me..
Though looking closer it seems to be a case of

Perhaps consider using the same buf array for all such cases? Can you
put one in the amd_i2c_dev structure for example and avoid constant
allocate then free cycles.

If you were to do that you could keep a preset up version of this
around and simply select it an set the length each time?
