With this patch I get this timing:

gcc7 - Time: 2018-08-24T01:42:07
gcc6 - Time: 2018-08-24T06:01:27

Somewhere in between 4.17.3 and 4.18.0.
Thanks for testing.  I think the impact of the change depends on the
number of page faults.

Does this test use a lot of memory and swap?

These are mostly build tests, i.e. it's basically constantly compiling. The machine has 8GiB RAM and my swap usage is still 0.
