One thing to try with the J series is a 32 bit kernel just in case: they're the only SMP systems that will boot 32 bits, just in case you could try a 32 bit smp kernel. As Dave Anglin said, it could be a config problem, although when I have CPUs deconfigured by firmware, they usually don't show up in the inventory.
