FWIW, I have a relatively recent mainline u-boot+SPL: U-Boot SPL 2012.04.01 (Jul 03 2012 - 07:07:04) U-Boot 2012.04.01 (Jul 03 2012 - 07:07:04) And I see I2C error messages from u-boot too: timed out in wait_for_pin: I2C_STAT=0 I2C read: I/O error I think these are normal/expected since u-boot may be looking for expansion cards.
