At this point I really don't care - mainly because of the lack of support from the community for sorting out these problems and testing solutions to them. It's the simplest solution for the corner we find ourselves in with all this crap, and avoids any possibility of any side effects caused by having different behaviours from the same kernel. I've merged it into my tree and I'm intending to push it upstream.
