So the macosx client mount succeeded because the sname=maru@xxxxxxxxxx was successfully mapped to a UID whereas the linux client mount failed because the sname=nfs/gibson.comsick.at@xxxxxxxxxx UID mapping failed (or hung as Bruce described).
