I did more or less the same:

$ rm -rf ../x86_64_allnoconfig
$ mkdir ../x86_64_allnoconfig
$ make ARCH=x86_64 O=../x86_64_allnoconfig CROSS_COMPILE=x86_64-linux-gnu- allnoconfig
$ make V=1 ARCH=x86_64 O=../x86_64_allnoconfig CROSS_COMPILE=x86_64-linux-gnu- -O

I do cross builds hosted on a PowerPC LE host.
