Generic Netlink Sockets

Hi,
I wanted to add a new family under NETLINK_GENERIC.
I have registered the family and the operations in the kernel code. I
wonder how I will get to know the family id in the user space.

nlmsghdr.nlmsg_type needs to be set with the ID that is generated for
the family. How can I know this from the userspace? Is there any API
that can give me this ID?

Thanks,
simha.
