How to stop ethernet timeout on non-networked kernel boot?

Hi,

I want my kernel not to have an ethernet connection timeout when my
machine is not networked. How do I go doing that?

1) Is it possible to supply a boot option to the kernel to stop this?
2) How could I at least reduce the timeout period?

The only way I do this at the moment is recompile my kernel with no
networking support but this is a very rough way to solve it as you may
imagine.

Thanks,
