2.6.7-mm? e1000 slow

2.6.7 SMP runs my e1000 just fine. When I apply either the mm4 or mm5
patch, the NIC slows down to about 1/8 speed (20 - 40 KB/s as opposed to
280 - 300 KB/s without the mm patch), but only to the Internet via cable
modem (SurfBoard SB3100). All other network access to local machines is
fine and full speed ahead (6 - 8 MB/s) over 100 Mb full duplex connections.

Hardware in this system:
SuperMicro X5DA8 MB (Intel 7505 chipset)
2 - 3.06 GHz P4 Xeons (533 MHz frontside and 1 MB L3 cache).
Onboard Adaptec Dual channel 7902 Ultra 320 SCSI
2 - 1 GB DDR Ram (Crucial PC2100)
Onboard Intel 82545EM Gb EtherNet

Running Fedora Core 2 release. 2.6.7 and with mm[45] patches built from the
kernel.org tree.

I really need to run the mm? series because I want to add a 3Ware 9500 Raid
array of SATA disks to create a large file and backup server.

Anyone seen similar problems? Is there a patch I can back out to work
around this?
