I want to use fast-switching in my linux router, using 2.6 kernel.
But in kernel-2.6.4 source codes, only dummy.c and bonding.c support "FASTROUTE", and even those two files contain empty content in FASTROUTE code!
Since there are few drivers support fast-switching, I decided to throw away my current Intel NICs and use DEC 21040 card with tulip driver.
But the only working driver I have ever found was written in 1998 by Donald Becker.
My questions are:
Why linux kernel maintain "FASTROUTE" feature, without any driver provided?
Is there any new fast-switching supported drivers I can use in current kernel?
Why only tulip? Does fast-switching method need hardware support? Can I port the code to eepro100/e100?
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Evan
