Tried that ... didn't work :-)

After reading /KNOPPIX/usr/share/doc/mbr/README I think I understand
the problem. I was supposed to put GRUB in the MBR using /dev/hda,
but instead I overwrote the MSDOS boot sector by using /dev/hda1.

Even if I re-install GRUB correctly in the MBR, I still need to
restore the MSDOS boot sector on /dev/hda1.

Anyone know how, using Linux, I can install an MSDOS boot sector?

I have a WIN98 install CD, and a WIN98SE upgrade CD, but I don't
know how big a boot sector should be, and whether or not I can just
copy the one on the CD, or even if there's a different boot sector
for IDE disks rather than bootable CDs.

Perhaps I should re-post this question in a WIN98 group.

Thanks, Ken.
