Help needed - New(ish) hardware problem

Hi all,

I've been a lurker on the list for a while, but this is the first post.

I'm stuck with a problem on my new machine. (Motherboard
GA-8SQ800 Dual-DDR (T256MB400) Intel 2.4 GHz)

I'm pretty sure everything is set up properly. The problem started
with a network card (rtl8139D), that worked on kernel-2.2.20 (and
of course weendoze), but not on kernel-2.4.20. I sent a
bug report to http://sourceforge.net/projects/gkernel/ thinking it was
an 8139too problem. But since, I've tried 3 different (definitely working)
network cards (3com + intel eepro100) on all 5 pci slots, but still no
banana. The network interface comes up, but there is no traffic picked up.

Reboot into 2.2.20, and everything works. I since suspected that there is a
clash with the usb controllers :

Well I've since tried to find a 2.4.20 backport of the usb drivers , but couldn't, so I tried
with a 2.5 kernel (2.5.9), but then I can't get my graphics card to work ( G-Force 4 Titanium).
So I've also tried to find (fruitlessly) drivers for the graphics card for 2.5.x kernels.

I actually stopped, and thought to ask here for help, as google also didn't bring answers.
Just want to know if someone could guide me to what is ACTUALLY wrong, before I disappoint myself
any further.

Thanks if you managed to get this far :)
