Linux ARP cacheing

Does the linux kernel cache the source IP of unsolicited ARP requests?
If so, does it cache Gratuitous ARP?

We had an issue where an NT server was brought online with the same IP
as our default gw. When the server sent out the Gratuitous ARP
searching for a duplicate IP, half of our Sun servers lost connection to
our WAN. Our linux servers, however, seemed to be unaffected. I've
found documentation on why the Sun servers did what they did. Im now
interested in finding out what our linux servers did differently.

respectfully,
