Sorry, I'am not a developer, but I just wonder why the driver for Braodcom bcm4400 series LAN is not part of the kernel. It is almost nowhere to find - I found it just by accident. But many people ask for it. The driver does exist, it is GPL and is made by the Broadcom people. Does anybody want to get the driver and iclude it into the kernel? (I won't send it to the maillist now, so I remove the attachment from Mr. Chan.). Please, tell me or ask the developer. Thank you, Pavel ---------- (fwd) ---------- Subject: RE: bcm4400 driver Date: Fri, 10 Jan 2003 12:26:36 -0800 From: "Michael Chan" <mchan@broadcom.com> To: Pavel.Vondricka@ff.cuni.cz Pavel, Let me try to answer all your questions. Your email is not the first that I've received concerning problems or availability of the linux driver for 4401. First of all, Broadcom normally does not provide direct customer support to the end user because we don't have the infra-structure and the resources to do that. We develop and test these drivers and let the OEMs (ASUS in this case) handle all the customer support including distribution of the drivers. The requirement to have the linux driver for the 4401 was added in the last minute and that may be why you cannot find the driver on early CDs. By the way, the latest driver is 1.0.2 and I have attached it. As to the quality of the driver, I can tell you that it has gone through QA testing in our lab. on a variety of x86 systems and version 1.0.2 does not have any known high severity bugs. Yes, the first version was written in Aug., 2002 but the testing and qualification cycle took some time. I have notified the colleague who handles ASUS about this problem and I hope that things will improve in the future.
