Packet rate of around 215000 p/s. irq rate of around 4600 p/s. I just realized the the reason redhat's kernel was faster is because they include the NAPI version of the e1000 driver, which does indeed improve performance. However, it doesn't solve the overall problem of smp not being any faster (and in fact) slower while using twice the cpu time as up.
