The 'last release' in this case is 2.4.20, the nettools themself (route
add)
supported it all the way but the kernel simply ditched the route when
net.ipv6.conf.all.forwarding = 1. Non-forwarding hosts where allowed to
turn on the default route thing though.

But since 2.4.20 one can use 'default' again for all setups.
2000::/3 was merely a 'hack', replacing 'default'.
As only 3ffe::/16, 2001::/16 and 2002::/16 are in use atm that is
enough.
