I've upgraded the kernel on an all ISA 486 system from 2.2.22 to 2.4.20.
With 2.4.20 the WD8003's IRQ is incorrectly recognized as 5, although it
should be 11. With 2.2.20 automatic recognition worked fine.
When I explicitely boot with ether="11,0x280,eth0" it works fine with
2.4.20.

with 2.2.22:

Nov 21 20:49:06 niigata kernel: wd.c: Presently autoprobing (not
recommended) for a single card.
Nov 21 20:49:06 niigata kernel: wd.c:v1.10 9/23/94 Donald Becker
(becker@cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov)
Nov 21 20:49:06 niigata kernel: eth0: WD80x3 at 0x280, 00 00 C0 0A 2C 2F
assigning address 0xd0000 WD8003-old, IRQ 11, shared memory at
0xd0000-0xd1fff.

with 2.4.20 (without lilo argument):

Dec 1 13:52:33 niigata kernel: wd.c:v1.10 9/23/94 Donald Becker
(becker@cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov)
Dec 1 13:52:33 niigata kernel: eth0: WD80x3 at 0x280, 00 00 C0 0A 2C 2F
assigning address 0xd0000 WD8003-old, IRQ 5, shared memory at
0xd0000-0xd1fff.
