I have discovered a way you can see the SIGIO problem without even
using the network.

If you boot Linux 2.4.18 (or earlier), execute `script` before you
execute my test program. It will execute as expected and exit upon
any keyboard input.

If you boot Linux 2.4.19, execute `script` then execute my test
program. You will get thousands of lines/seconds on your terminal.
