Question: traceroute

When we do traceroute to some machine, why is it that
sometimes, the traceroute finishes presumably thinking
that the destination machine has been reached without
showing any signs of contacting it.

My ip is 10.106.1.63
The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
10.106.2.2 is the ip of my local CISCO IOS Router

When I do a traceroute to 10.106.1.* eg,
(1).
traceroute to 10.106.1.38 (10.106.1.38), 30 hops max,
38 byte packets
 1 10.106.2.2 (10.106.2.2) 0.332 ms 0.225 ms 0.186
ms
 2 10.106.1.38 (10.106.1.38) 0.384 ms 0.213 ms
0.181 ms

the destination host figures as the last host probed.

This also happens with for example :
(2).
traceroute to 10.112.55.107 (10.112.55.107), 30 hops
max, 38 byte packets
 1 10.106.2.2 (10.106.2.2) 0.331 ms 0.264 ms 0.193
ms
 2 10.200.21.1 (10.200.21.1) 0.352 ms 0.242 ms
0.211 ms
 3 10.200.35.2 (10.200.35.2) 0.321 ms 0.252 ms
0.240 ms
 4 10.112.55.107 (10.112.55.107) 0.251 ms 0.227 ms
0.210 ms

But for the following probes, the destination host
doesn't figure at all.
(3).
traceroute to 10.15.1.2 (10.15.1.2), 30 hops max, 38
byte packets
 1 10.106.2.2 (10.106.2.2) 0.321 ms 0.226 ms 0.188
ms
 2 10.200.21.1 (10.200.21.1) 0.244 ms 0.237 ms
0.210 ms
 3 10.200.8.1 (10.200.8.1) 0.251 ms 0.252 ms 0.236
ms
 4 10.200.9.2 (10.200.9.2) 0.311 ms * 0.379 ms

(4).
traceroute to 10.109.1.2 (10.109.1.2), 30 hops max, 38
byte packets
 1 10.106.2.2 (10.106.2.2) 18.601 ms 0.231 ms
0.186 ms
 2 10.200.21.1 (10.200.21.1) 0.272 ms 0.231 ms
0.209 ms
 3 10.200.15.2 (10.200.15.2) 0.308 ms * 0.358 ms

My First Question is : Why should the final
destination host figure at some times and not at
other.

Also notice in traceroute (1) above and (5) below that
10.106.1.2 which i suppose is the router etc for some
of my neighbourhood friends doesn't figure at all in
any probe. It is finally answered by 10.106.2.2
(5).
traceroute to 10.106.1.2 (10.106.1.2), 30 hops max, 38
byte packets
 1 10.106.2.2 (10.106.2.2) 4.702 ms * 0.319 ms

I guess this is the same as the above question. That
is one router probably answering for someone else and
hence the "someone else" not being shown explicitly by
traceroute. Why is it so ?

Regards
Abhishek
