Lots of history involved in answering that question :)

Basically, Linus's and Becker's development styles are different.

If you want some feature from Donald Becker's drivers in the kernel, 
you'll need to send a patch to me and/or linux-kernel@vger.kernel.org.

Becker's drivers _should_ work in 2.4 now, so you can grab his driver 
from ftp://www.scyld.com/pub/network/ along with supporting files 
pci-scan.[ch] and kern_compat.h.

If you can narrow down the problem you are seeing, it would be great to 
merge that fix into the kernel.
