IP stack in linux

Hello, network hackers.

Is this right, that linux IP stack was completely rewritten in both ipv4
and ipv6? Why was not KAME ipv6 got?
I suppose because of improoveing performance and adopt it to the existent
ipv4 stack or i am wrong? Please, tell the story :)
