Hi, I have a problem with my 3com networkcard. My system is a ASUS P2B-F with a PII and 256MB RAM, LSI SCSI Controller with an 53c875 and 3c905B. More infos are in the output of "lspci -vx" appended as lspci-vx.txt. The networkcard is connected to a 100Mbit CNet switch. The softwareconfig is a SuSE 7.3 with kernel 2.4.10. The included driver is LK1.1.16 19 July 2001 akpm. The situation now is, that the connection LED from the switch stays off when the computer is started. Changing the cable doesen't help, changing the switchport too. Only replacing the card by an other 905B led to a running network including LED lighting. So my first thought was about a broken card :-(( But while reading in several mailinglist archives I found mails with nearly the same errormessages and answaers saying that it could me a softwareproblem. Well, the worst thing I get out of all these messages is, that the networkadapter doesn't know about a link!!! The situation the error happend first was on saturday while using vmware. The messages generated at that time are included in file error.txt. The messages are repeated because of retrying the work within vmware. It was a samba transfer. The messages generated now are included in banner.txt. When starting the network the messages included in file networkstart.txt are generated. Some additional infos from "mii-diag -v" are included in file mii-diag-v.txt and the output from vortex-diag -aaee is included in vortex-diag-aaee.txt. My qustion now, is it a hardware damage or just a software problem? If it is a softwareproblem, how can it be solved? Do you need to know any additional infos?
