Filesystem Boot Error

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

I haven't had any problem with Kernel 2.2.19-10mdk on LM8.0 booting,
until now, after adding the most recent updates.

Every time I boot the system, the following error occurs:

Checking root filesystem /dev/hdb1 is mounted. Cannot
	continue, aborting.

	Failed to check filesystem.
Do you want to repair the errors?
	(beware, you can loose data)

Whether I answer yes, y, no, or no, the system takes me to a prompt
to login for maintenance. Each time I logged in, I remounted
the root drive in read-only mode and ran "e2fsck -fv [device]" or
"fsck.ext2 -fv [device]" and received the same output -- nothing
wrong with the system.	Next I would use control-d and the computer
would reboot and repeat.

So, on one such boot I entered init 3 after logging in and the
computer continued on its way loading everything. After the console
prompt appeared, I typed exit.	Everything is working perfectly.
In fact, I'm writing this message in X, connected to the ISP,
and noting is wrong. But, if I reboot . . . it will repeat the
same mistake.

How can this issue be repaired?
