Slight OT: swap in 2.4

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Back in the 2.0 (?) days when we built our first servers, several people
advised us to set up at least a small swap partition because the VMM
handled it better (faster) than a swapless situation. True or not, most
of our servers have 128MB of swap as a result.

Given that I have no desire to repartition a server, nor dedicate a gig or
two to getty, I'm left with using what I have or disabling swap altogether
if we move to 2.4. Is 2.4.6+ stable in either situation? Is the
reduction in total memory the only downside to disabling swap entirely?

Thanks,
