Appletalk Optimization

I am thinking of getting gigabit cards for my Linux box and my G4. Since I
will primarily be using the Appletalk protocol, what would I need to take
into consideration performance-wise? Would certain chipsets perform better
with that protocol? From the source, I read that the acenic drivers work
with Tigon-based cards. Is this my best option at the moment for gigabit
support in Linux?

In a comment in acenic.c, I noticed that in order to enable Jumbo Frames,
I would have to run:

ifconfig eth<X> mtu <MTU>

Where <MTU> is between 1500 and 9000. Would I have to enable that on the
Mac's side too? Do any other the Tigon-based cards have drivers for
MacOS9?

Thanks,
Mike
