I would use:

- malformed packets generated by netlib, see "packet generators on freefire"
- generate a lot of flows, see nmap (connect mode) on freefire
- use tcpblast, pchar, spray... diag tools to measure througput
- use tcpdump and the build in echo/sink port of inetd as the taget

In the tools section you wil find some hints on traffic generators for Linux
and on sniffers.

I would test all kinds of trafic patterns.. you may need to send from more
than one client.

Don't have much experiences with them..
