I compiled and installed net-tools 1.58 last night, but when I booted up again this morning, found that it spat out a few error messages and failed to setup the "lo" interface. In my startup scripts (rc.inet1) I have: ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1 up route add -host 127.0.0.1 lo ...and ifconfig from net-tools 1.58 responds: root@darkstar:/etc/rc.d# ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1 up SIOCSIFADDR: Bad file descriptor lo: unknown interface: Bad file descriptor lo: unknown interface: Bad file descriptor I reverted to net-tools 1.57 and its ifconfig does it correctly. In fact that's why I didnt find it last night, since lo had been set up by 1.57, and 1.58 works okay (shows the interfaces properly) once it's set up. Sorry if this has already been mentioned.
