Hi, I just recently put together a new system and I'm having an odd problem with this D-Link dfe-530tx. On the first of 3 installs of slackware 7 I tried to let the installer probe for ethernet devices and it locked up solid. Same for FreeBSD 4.1.1. This is what i get with the stock kernel when I try to load via-rhine at boot: /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/via-rhine.o: init_module: Device or resource busy Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/via-rhine.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/via-rhine.o failed /lib/modules/2.2.13/net/via-rhine.o: insmod via-rhine failed Under 2.4.0-test8 (and test9) however I get this instead: via-rhine.c:v1.08b-LK1.1.6 8/9/2000 Written by Donald Becker http://www.scyld.com/network/via-rhine.html eth0: VIA VT6102 Rhine-II at 0xdc00, 00:00:00:00:00:00, IRQ 11. Note the hardware address with all zeroes. That can't be good... Also, ifconfig shows TX errors after I attempt to ping another machine I have here. Error count seems to increase without me doing anything as well: eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:00:00:00:00 inet addr:192.168.0.12 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:304 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:100 Interrupt:11 Base address:0xdc00 And just now I notice that dmesg is chock full of this: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out eth0: Transmit timed out, status 0000, PHY status 0000, resetting... I'm pretty baffled by this since the card seems to work fine under win98.. And if anyone is thinking that it's a rtl8139 instead, lspci shows this: 00:09.0 Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc.: Unknown device 3065 (rev 42) Anything I can try or is my card just plain buggered?
