Before anyone can really offer any suggestions, you really need to
give more details of what you have there - things like:

1) the kernel version
2) if SMP or non-SMP		or use /proc/version for 1->3
3) the compiler version
4) the contents of /proc/net/dev
5) the nature of traffic that causes problem (e.g. heavy Rx or heavy Tx)
6) are any non-std patches being used? (e.g. vmware)
7) a full card description (make, model; driver & lspci output if applicable)
8) network environment card is connected to.
