While I've never thought VNC was necessarily slow (actually I prefer it to
PCAnywhere, Carbon Copy, etc.), I agree that it's not the tool needed here. 

If remote session support for StarOffice is the requirement, I'd probably
advise StarOffice for Windows and Windows Terminal Server. For "web-a-fying"
the app, Citrix is the way to go.

I really don't know of a simpler solution than this, especially one that can be
implemented on Linux!
