Hi Mark,
  can you try ipx tools from ncpfs-2.2.0.18? I have Greg tools here, updated
a bit (and added scmd driver over ethertap), and they compile on 
glibc-2.0/2.1 systems correctly - and I believe that they compile on 
Alpha glibc-2.1 too, as Debian has ipx package for Alphas...
