If you just want very basic security configured by a simple GUI grab Gnome-lokkit. If you want to do more serious stuff then you'll need to know about tcp/ip and how packet filters work, or find someone who does - : send the line "unsubscribe linux-net" in the body of a message to majordomo@vger.rutgers.edu
