Linux shutdown

When I try to reboot or shutdown my Linux box, I get the message below following:
.......
Turning off swap
Unmounting proc file system.
Unable to load interpreter [FAILED].

 After that the system hangs. The message below is from the system log. Any help and insight will be appreciated.
