At the linux command prompt (in my case, from midnight commander in a terminal window). It should work in any terminal window, I guess.

If you tried it from the dos prompt, I guess it would not work (your error message is a dos message) because dosemu is a linux command.

That works for me, but here's another bit ...

I'm wondering if there is any way to stop the title bar changing every time
a dos command is executed.

I need it to be static, so that the value of dosemu_X_title is what
constantly shows, without anything else, regardless of what's going on in
dosemu.
