Hmm, bdftopcf and mkfontdir are part of the base x11 package. If you have that package installed, then you probably don't have /usr/X11R6/bin in your path. That bin directory is added to the path in the base /etc/profile and /etc/csh.login files. Do you set your own path from scratch? If you don't have x11 installed, then my guess is that you don't need the fonts that weren't installed.
