This is not an improvement. It detaches the oom report and tasks_dump for an arbitrary amount of time because the worder context might be stalled for an arbitrary time. Even long after the oom is resolved. Not to mention that 1:1 (oom to tasks) information dumping is fundamentally broken. Any task might be on an oom list of different OOM contexts in different oom scopes (think of OOM happening in disjunct NUMA sets). This is just adding more kludges and making the code more complex without trying to address an underlying problems. So Nacked-by: Michal Hocko <mhocko@xxxxxxxx> And more importantly it is _known_ that dump_tasks might be costly. People who really need that information have to live with that fact. There is the way to disable this functionality. I wish we could have it disabled by default but it seems I am alone in that thinking so I am not going to push for it. > Signed-off-by: Tetsuo Handa <penguin-kernel@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > --- > include/linux/sched.h | 17 +++++- > mm/oom_kill.c | 149 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++--------------- > 2 files changed, 121 insertions(+), 45 deletions(-) > > diff --git a/include/linux/sched.h b/include/linux/sched.h > index b6ec130dff9b..8960e7dc2077 100644 > --- a/include/linux/sched.h > +++ b/include/linux/sched.h > @@ -639,6 +639,21 @@ struct wake_q_node { > struct wake_q_node *next; > }; > > +/* Memory usage and misc info as of invocation of OOM killer. */ > +struct oom_task_info { > + struct list_head list; > + unsigned int seq; > + char comm[TASK_COMM_LEN]; > + pid_t pid; > + uid_t uid; > + pid_t tgid; > + unsigned long total_vm; > + unsigned long mm_rss; > + unsigned long pgtables_bytes; > + unsigned long swapents; > + int score_adj; > +}; > + > struct task_struct { > #ifdef CONFIG_THREAD_INFO_IN_TASK > /* > @@ -1260,7 +1275,7 @@ struct task_struct { > #ifdef CONFIG_MMU > struct task_struct *oom_reaper_list; > #endif > - struct list_head oom_victim_list; > + struct oom_task_info oom_task_info; > #ifdef CONFIG_VMAP_STACK > struct vm_struct *stack_vm_area; > #endif > diff --git a/mm/oom_kill.c b/mm/oom_kill.c > index 93eae768a475..fbe17007fb76 100644 > --- a/mm/oom_kill.c > +++ b/mm/oom_kill.c > @@ -377,16 +377,80 @@ static void select_bad_process(struct oom_control *oc) > } > } > > +static unsigned int oom_killer_seq; /* Serialized by oom_lock. */ > +static LIST_HEAD(oom_candidate_list); /* Serialized by oom_lock. */ > > static int add_candidate_task(struct task_struct *p, void *arg) > { > - if (!oom_unkillable_task(p)) { > - get_task_struct(p); > - list_add_tail(&p->oom_victim_list, (struct list_head *) arg); > - } > + struct oom_control *oc = arg; > + struct mm_struct *mm; > + struct oom_task_info *oti; > + > + if (oom_unkillable_task(p)) > + return 0; > + /* p may not have freeable memory in nodemask */ > + if (!is_memcg_oom(oc) && !oom_cpuset_eligible(p, oc)) > + return 0; > + /* All of p's threads might have already detached their mm's. */ > + p = find_lock_task_mm(p); > + if (!p) > + return 0; > + get_task_struct(p); > + oti = &p->oom_task_info; > + mm = p->mm; > + oti->seq = oom_killer_seq; > + memcpy(oti->comm, p->comm, sizeof(oti->comm)); > + oti->pid = task_pid_nr(p); > + oti->uid = from_kuid(&init_user_ns, task_uid(p)); > + oti->tgid = p->tgid; > + oti->total_vm = mm->total_vm; > + oti->mm_rss = get_mm_rss(mm); > + oti->pgtables_bytes = mm_pgtables_bytes(mm); > + oti->swapents = get_mm_counter(mm, MM_SWAPENTS); > + oti->score_adj = p->signal->oom_score_adj; > + task_unlock(p); > + list_add_tail(&oti->list, &oom_candidate_list); > return 0; > } > > +static void dump_candidate_tasks(struct work_struct *work) > +{ > + bool first = true; > + unsigned int seq; > + struct oom_task_info *oti; > + > + if (work) /* Serialize only if asynchronous. */ > + mutex_lock(&oom_lock); > + while (!list_empty(&oom_candidate_list)) { > + oti = list_first_entry(&oom_candidate_list, > + struct oom_task_info, list); > + seq = oti->seq; > + if (first) { > + pr_info("OOM[%u]: Tasks state (memory values in pages):\n", > + seq); > + pr_info("OOM[%u]: [ pid ] uid tgid total_vm rss pgtables_bytes swapents oom_score_adj name\n", > + seq); > + first = false; > + } > + pr_info("OOM[%u]: [%7d] %5d %5d %8lu %8lu %8ld %8lu %5hd %s\n", > + seq, oti->pid, oti->uid, oti->tgid, oti->total_vm, > + oti->mm_rss, oti->pgtables_bytes, oti->swapents, > + oti->score_adj, oti->comm); > + list_del(&oti->list); > + if (work) > + mutex_unlock(&oom_lock); > + put_task_struct(container_of(oti, struct task_struct, > + oom_task_info)); > + cond_resched(); > + if (work) > + mutex_lock(&oom_lock); > + } > + if (work) > + mutex_unlock(&oom_lock); > +} > + > +static DECLARE_WORK(oom_dump_candidates_work, dump_candidate_tasks); > + > /** > * dump_tasks - dump current memory state of all system tasks > * @oc: pointer to struct oom_control > @@ -399,49 +463,41 @@ static int add_candidate_task(struct task_struct *p, void *arg) > */ > static void dump_tasks(struct oom_control *oc) > { > - LIST_HEAD(list); > struct task_struct *p; > - struct task_struct *t; > > + /* > + * Suppress as long as there is any OOM victim candidate from past > + * rounds of OOM killer invocations.
