Maybe they could add some fixes or improvements to current proposition. Yes, this could probably be done at bttv and cx88 hardware, by changing the RISC code. As bttv (and saa7134) supports overlay mode, perhaps the basic code is already there. Still, I don't think that anybody is interested (or have enough time) to change something at this part of the code.
